Player of the Game vs. Ironwood Ridge

Congratulations to #11 Molly Vesling for being selected the Arcadia Girls Soccer Player of the Game.

Senior defender Molly Vesling not only anchored a defense that shut out Ironwood Ridge 1-0, she also pushed forward to score the game's only goal. With senior Kate Murphy taking a 35-yard free kick from just in front of IR's bench in the 10th minute, Arcadia assistant coach Bill Christenson sent Molly all the way to the back post in the attacking 18. When Kate's heavy, penetrating ball eluded her sister Clare as well as two IR defenders and keeper, Molly volleyed accurately just inside the post for the goal. It was Molly's first goal of the season after moving to center defense alongside junior sweeper Dominique Ballard. Molly also pushed hard up the middle of the field in the 70th minute to win a ball and play junior Kalena Teufel into the attacking third, but Kalena's chance for the insurance goal was thwarted by an IR foul that resulted in a yellow card. Back in defense, Molly cleared multiple balls with both her feet and head to help Arcadia get a win over a dangerous IR squad.
